BUSINESS OPORTUNITIES: THE AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR IN SPAIN

The Spanish Automotive Sector Turnover represents 10% of GDP and 17.7% of the total National Exports.

More than 300.000 people is directly employed in the automotive industry and two million jobs are linked somehow with the sector. Around 10% of the working population is related to the Automotive sector.

In 2013 vehicle manufacturing in Spain was up 9.3% on 2012, reaching 2,163,338 units. The Spanish Industry has launched the 3Million Plan to produce 1 Million extra vehicles.

The 9 multinational brands established in the country have in course €5bn of Productive Investment to expand production and to manufacture new models and electric models in their Spanish Plants.

R&D

Spanish Production Plants rank among the most technologically advanced in Europe, with 89 robots for each 10.000 workers, and one of the highest investment rates in R+D among all industries, supported by an outstanding network of Automotive clusters and 34 Technology Centers.

Auto-Pars Industry

Spanish Auto-Parts Industry is another key factor to the success of the automotive Sector. A thousand of companies belonging to 720 entrepreneurial groups are located in Spain, providing a fast and customized service to manufacturing plants. This industry turns over more than 27.500 million Euros, 60% belonging to exports.

Exports-Logistics

Spain is a privileged export Platform towards European markets, North Africa, Latin-America and Mediterranean markets.

Exports of Made in Spain vehicles rose by 8.7% in 2013. 1,879,974 units were shipped abroad in 2013. Non traditional markets as USA, North-African countries, Turkey are underwriting this upward trend.

Between 3 and 4 million vehicles are transported every year in Spain being the modern infrastructures and logistics facilities of the automotive sector a key factor of competitiveness of Spanish factories and distribution network.
